Small Business Tips for Office Managers

www.paulconant.com – Fairfield, CT – Does your small business need order brought to its office? Are you a small business owner who is looking to bring order to your establishment? If you are, you may be in the process of examining all of your office management options. As a small business owner, it is critical to your success that you make the right decisions. For tips on how to make those right decisions, you will want to continue reading on.

One of the biggest mistakes that small business owners make is assuming that they need to hire an office manager. Yes, office managers are one of the best ways to bring management and order into your company, but it is important to first examine your company. If you are small in size, you may be able to do all office monitoring yourself. This may eliminate the need for hiring an office manager. Office managers typically receive more pay than secretaries or other office workers. That is why it is advised that you first determine whether or not you really need to hire an office manager. If your company employs less than five office workers, you may not need an office manager, at least right now.

Speaking of your current employees, it is advised that you first utilize the ones that you have, before hiring a new office manager. If your business is small in size, you may want to consider promoting one of your current secretaries or other office workers. If your office is small in size, you may be able to do this promotion without hiring any replacements. For a reasonable pay increase, you may find that a number of your office workers are willing to add the title of supervisor to their name. This may be a nice, cheap way for you to bring order to your business.

If you are interested in running your business without the use of an office manager, you will want to make sure that you are clear on what is expected of all of your employees. It may actually be a good idea to terminate those who are unprofessional or known for their missed deadlines. It is more than possible for business owners, especially small business owners, to operate without employing office managers, but it can be difficult to do. Those without office managers need to rely heavily on their employees. Even if you do decide to hire an office manager, it is important that you are clear as to what is expected of him or her.

Another option that you have, when looking to bring office management into your small business, involves using office management software. Office management software is software that combines a number of programs all into one. It is common for office management software to have task lists with important dates highlighted, easy to use email programs, form and document templates, payment tracking programs, and so forth. Whether your business employs an office manager or not, office management software can be of great assistance to you.

Staying up to date in the latest in business and office management is another easy way for small business owners, such as yourself, to bring order and management into your office. You can easily use the internet, business magazines and journals, or office management seminars, to your advantage. These resources may provide you with updated information and successful tips and tricks that you can use to bring order into your office, whether you officially employ an office manager or not. Staying up-to-date on the latest in business and office management is important for all small business owners, as many do not have the resources and budgets needed to compete with larger business any other way.

The above mentioned tips are just a few of the many that you and other small business owners can benefit from using. Remember having good processes in place will make an office manager’s job easier.

Search Engine Optimization where to start

www.paulconant.com Search Engine Optimization is a process of choosing the most appropriate targeted keyword phrases related to your site and ensuring that this ranks your site highly in search engines so that when someone searches for specific phrases it returns your site on tops. It basically involves fine tuning the content of your site along with the HTML and Meta tags and also involves appropriate link building process. The most popular search engines are Google, Yahoo, Bing, AOL and Ask. Search engines keep their methods and ranking algorithms secret, to get credit for finding the most valuable search-results and to deter spam pages from clogging those results. A search engine may use hundreds of factors while ranking the listings where the factors themselves and the weight each carries may change continually. Algorithms can differ so widely that a webpage that ranks #1 in a particular search engine could rank #200 in another search engine. New sites need not be “submitted” to search engines to be listed. A simple link from a well established site will get the search engines to visit the new site and begin to spider its contents. It can take a few days to even weeks from the referring of a link from such an established site for all the main search engine spiders to commence visiting and indexing the new site.

If you are unable to research and choose keywords and work on your own search engine ranking, you may want to hire someone to work with you on these issues.

Search engine marketing and promotion companies, will look at the plan for your site and make recommendations to increase your search engine ranking and website traffic. If you wish, they will also provide ongoing consultation and reporting to monitor your website and make recommendations for editing and improvements to keep your site traffic flow and your search engine ranking high. Normally your search engine optimization experts work with your web designer to build an integrated plan right away so that all aspects of design are considered at the same time.

www.paulconant.com - Offers Innovative Offline Marketing Tips – To edge out competitors is always a great challenge among business owners. The following offline marketing tips are appropriate to the changing preferences and lifestyles of customers:

Update Your Content Regularly

Although majority of your message or products may still be the same, it pays to mix up the content and rephrase your message or add a few new products or product variations to arouse the interest of customers. Also, offer new promos in each new issue such as discounts, free samples, or buy one take one. This will sustain the interest of buyers so that they will always look forward to the coming new issues.

Print Ads in Public Utility Vehicles

Among the other innovative offline marketing tips is to print your ads in public utility vehicles or mass transit such as buses and metro rail transits. The ads should be interesting and eye catching. The target audience for these is the group of commuters who are usually bored during long trips or during traffic hours, and they usually pass their time staring at their surrounding environment. If the ads will feature popular personalities and convey catching or even controversial messages, product recall will be strong and the probability of the customers buying the product will be greater.

Ads in Queuing Areas

Frame interesting ads and hang them conspicuously in areas where there are usually queues such as ticket booths in cinemas, automatic teller machines, payment counters, and even in comfort rooms. People in queues are also usually bored and pass their time reading or staring at any printed material that their eyes can lay on. If the ads are creatively made and interesting, people might enjoy reading them or may even be entertained even for just a short while. This may result in a product trial or even patronage. Just see to it that the area where you’re going to display your ads is appropriate to your product. If the product is sanitary napkin, for instance, then it’s best to place the ad in female comfort rooms.

Indirect Ads Imbedded In An Article

Commission a columnist writing in a widely read publication such as a magazine or newspaper to casually or subtly mention your product and its brand in an article that should be related to your business. If the product is sun block, for example, then the article’s topic can be about a tourist destination like a beach. Just be sure that the writer is a credible one and that your product is related to the theme of his column.

Sponsor Events

These events could be charitable programs, sports, beauty pageants, school and government programs, etc. Just see to it that your product is related to the nature of the event. If your product is energy drink, for instance, you can sponsor a sports event. This will not only expose your product to your target market segment but will also earn your company good will from the community benefited by the event.

Indirect Endorsement by Popular Personalities

Make an arrangement with popular personalities to wear your product conspicuously in public functions and also to wear it casually in public such as during jogging, shopping, or shows. This is effective because people will think that it is really a good product for it to be worn by a respected, popular, or credible personality.

Marketing is a dynamic process because customers’ behavior and preferences keep on changing. Therefore, innovative offline marketing tips should be employed so that the business will thrive in the midst of recent developments and changes in the market.

That’s it for today… For more tips to dominate your market now is the time! Call 203-808-1986 if you would like to schedule at consultation.

Conant explains: The readability and freshness of your articles will still be the basis of whether your readers will keep on coming back to your website or not.

www.gizoom.com – Connecticut marketer Paul Conant offers a few quick inexpensive tips for search engine optimization. Search engine optimization or SEO is the hottest way to drive targeted traffic to your website. Maximizing the benefits of a well optimized website will yield lots of earnings for the marketer. However, optimizing your site might cost you thousands of dollars if you are not skilled in this area.

But to tell you the truth, you can essentially get information on low cost SEO anywhere in the Internet. But only several really show you how to work out an affordable search engine optimization endeavor. And those few that really inform include this article.

1. Link exchanges
One cheap SEO method that can get you best results is through link exchanges or linking to and from other web sites. Depending on the websites that you would like to exchange links with, this tool could even cost you nothing at all. Contact the author or owner of the web site you want to have a link exchange with. You will be surprised with the eventual spiking up of your page ranking using this means of getting your website optimized.

2. Write or acquire key word rich articles

Writing truly informative and keyword-rich articles is one surefire way to make your Internet business more visible than ever. It’s either you write your own articles or you get them from article directories that allow you to post these articles on your website as long as you keep the resource box or the author’s byline in tact. Just don’t stuff your articles with keywords that even idiots would get bore of reading them. The readability and freshness of your articles will still be the basis of whether your readers will keep on coming back to your website or not.

3. Catchy Domain Name

What better will make your target visitors remember your website but with a very easy-to-recall domain name. Something sweet and short will prove to be very invaluable. Registering your domain name is not for free. But creativity is.

4. Organize your site navigation

Providing easy steps in navigating your site is one way to make your visitors become at ease with your site. This, in turn, will improve the flow of traffic to your website.

Low cost SEO is always evolving like any other approach in information technology. There are many methods that can very well land you on the top ten rankings of Google or on any other search engines. Some may cost a lot but there are methods that can give you the same results at a low price or you can even do on your own such as those mentioned above.

Guess What The Customer Is Not Always Right! Really?

Ok this was a post I first put on the blog back in october of 2009. After reading about Steven Slater losing his cool I thought let me repost it!! I’m not sayng what Mr. Slater did was right but I wouldnt what to be on his jury!! I would be the first to say; Hey, That JetBlue passanger was a jerk!!
The Customer is NOT always right! Today, I stand in front of you and commit the ultimate in business heresy by asserting that, the customer is NOT always right. While speakers and consultants have made millions by saying your customer is your business and without the customer there is no business! Or they will tell you that if the service is not good enough, then the customer seeks out better service somewhere else. All of these truths have very little to do with whether or not the customer is always right, sometimes right, or never right!

The statement “The Customer is NOT always right!” is much deeper than servicing the customer. It is more about the small number of jerks who might find their way to your door and then they try to get “something for nothing” by complaining and making up stories! Maybe he or she wants to use every policy to their favor, to take advantage of you, and if you don’t do as they say they will tell all of their friends or call your boss or his boss until they get what they want. Meanwhile, everyone who knows them probably knows that they are a jerk, so maybe the threat is no big deal.

It took me a long while to grasp that many stupid people proudly identify themselves whenever they feel it necessary. In most cases they unconsciously self select themselves to a cause or unforeseen right that they feel they are entitled to. Individuals that have wisdom and judgment feel no need to identify themselves because they exhibit control & decorum. I want to acknowledge the later! Ignorance usually prevails and the idiots make all of the noise, while the people who exercise some self control are often over looked.

So when someone shoots out the old tired (nearly ridiculous) phrase “The Customer is Always Right” I cringe! Nothing could be further from the truth! Customers that have legitimate needs and concerns are always right, as long as they have a valid complaint or concern, and they voice it in a mature and dignified way. Those loud mouthed, fouled tongued, closed mined people, and those “blow hards” with self control issues, and those morons who have border line psychiatric problems, are never right! Never!

Beware of these buffoons, though, because they are everywhere. You can see them in the super market, hear their horns in the car behind you, hear their loud obnoxious voices at an office, and if you are unfortunate enough to be in a hospital bed, to make matters worse, you may possibly have an idiot laying in the bed next you. Don’t get me wrong we all have stupid in us, from time to time, but hopefully most adults only experience “something slipping out,” every once in a great while!

Today’s society is filled with what I like to call “Unconscious Incompetents.” There are many of them around these days! I worry about my children and yours! When my daughters make a mistake or they begin to act up, they feel bad and they tell me they are sorry or it was an accident. An accident? I love that one! No, this was no accident it was a control issue. They wanted something…they couldn’t have it…so they lost control. As a parent it’s up to me to make them understand that they can lose control. I in return can loose control and beat them. This would only prove one thing, that it’s OK for an adult to lose control. Life is a vicious cycle. So instead, I choose to sit them down and explain why what they did was wrong, and how in the future, they will lose items that they like if they choose to lose control again. This is a slow process! I hope they look back at it as a learning experience. My point is this; children that are allowed to lose control and its acceptable by their parents, will grow up to be these moronic adults that lose control and they see no problem with it.

I was listening to a newscaster on the radio a few weeks back. He was explaining that someone fell off a cruise ship into the ocean and summed it up as an accident. Really? An accident? How does one start heading down the path to such an accident? Hmmm…let me think…the person might have been drinking then fell off the ship. Was this customer right? No accident…just a series of stupid events followed by falling off of a cruise ship. I have been on a cruise ship and I have no idea how you can accidentally fall off the ship. I would love to understand it better.

When I watch TV, I see these people whine about losing their houses, their fortunes, their businesses and so forth. These idiots blame George Bush, Bernie Madoff, The Economy, Mortgage Brokers, Republicans, Democrats, the Media, et cetera, for their misfortunes. The bottom line is that we have only ourselves to blame. Sure some problems are unavoidable. They seem to find us out of the blue. That’s life! I think of it like this; the bigger the problem, the better & stronger I feel when I solve it! Problems aren’t without a lot of pain. People will die, people will suffer, you may suffer, and there will be times when you wish you were dead. Please don’t whine, don’t take it out on others, just be strong, smile & move on! If you feel slighted don’t lose control. Discuss!

When you discuss a problem with someone and the other person doesn’t “get it” and there is no chance that they ever will, you have to understand that you are not alone. Someone once said “you can’t argue with ignorance.” This is a very true statement. I would ask why would you want to argue with an ignorant person? Why would you let it get to the argue stage? Would you ask someone in a wheelchair to get up and walk? Then why ask someone who is incapable of reasoning and understanding? The only thing that can happen is that you will get frustrated, and I say “shame on you!”

So where did the old mantra “The Customer is Always Right” come from? Research has shown that two companies used this silly slogan, in their advertising to woo customers. The first company was Marshall Field’s department store, (established in the late 19th century). The store was an icon in Chicago until in 2006 when it was bought by Macy’s. The other was Mr. Harry Gordon Selfridge, the founder of London’s Selfridges Store, who was born in Wisconsin. Mr. Selfridge worked for Field’s from 1879 to 1901. I guess he had a career with them for 22 years, while giving the occasional idiot customer the benefit if the doubt!

If you are in business, you obviously want to be fair, and take care of problems that your customers will occasionally have. You also want to make sure that no one treats you as a door mat, and walks all over you. If you know a customer is blatantly trying to rip you off, it might be a better idea to stand up to them and not let them get away with it. At the Walt Disney Company, they have a backstage saying, “Our guests may not always be right, but they will always be our guests!”
